Prague, 17 July 2014 – T-Mobile has announced the national winner of the fourth edition of Takeoffs of the Year, a competition for start-up businesses. In online voting, the public has chosen the Moje dílna (My Workshop) café project by Zuzana Kubíčková from Zlín. She received the main prize of CZK 150,000 and other valuable prizes from the partners of the competition. The special prize of the Takeoffs team in the amount of CZK 100,000 was awarded to Jaroslava Michalcová from Roudnice nad Labem for Dortletka, a dessert inspired by the historical era of the First Czechoslovak Republic. The 2,999th voter also received a price.

“We at T-Mobile have always wanted and will continue to support and bring together people who just don’t sit passively with their hands on their laps but who pursue their dream, stand up on their own two feet, start doing business and thus bring something not only to themselves but also to the communities in which they live,” says Petra Pavičová, Social Responsibility Manager at T-Mobile.

Three winners

The grand-prize winner, Zuzana Kubíčková, who is from the Zlín region, received CZK 150,000 in addition to the prizes she had received in the regional round. These awards can help her to develop her cosy creative workshop and café, Moje dílna (My Workshop), where she organises seminars on various art techniques. The prize in the competition was donated by Česká Spořitelna.

T-Mobile awarded CZK 100,000 to Jaroslava Michalcová as the Takeoffs of the Year team prize. Ms. Michalcová is the originator of a project comprising an original confection baked according to the original family recipe, Dortletka, whose tradition dates back to the era of Austria-Hungary.

The third winner was Mr. Stanislav Zoubek, who cast his vote as the 2,999th out of the total of 12,000 voters and, according to the rules of online voting, won a Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Quality partners again provided their support

Prominent partners such as Česká spořitelna, Samsung, KnowHowKlub.cz, ZalozFirmu.cz, centrum.cz, jobs.cz and Canon again took part in this year’s edition of Takeoffs. Support was also provided by a number of experts, regional companies and participants in previous editions of Takeoffs of the Year. T-Mobile extends its thanks to all of the partners for their cooperation.

“Česká spořitelna has long supported start-up businesses, not only through Takeoffs of the Year but also through its offer of products and services. Our corporate bankers provide valuable know-how to start-up businesses in the area of finance and consult their individual business plans with them so as to maximise their chances of a successful start,” adds Petra Michalská, MSE Segment Manager at Česká spořitelna.

A total of 312 projects were registered in Takeoffs this year. They included not only community-focused and cultural projects, but also technical, production, educative, sports, health and may other endeavours, though most of them were mostly focused on e-business. More than five hundred participants took part in a total of 14 free regional seminars offering hands-on workshops. At the seminars, prizes were distributed to 59 winners. The task of the jurors was by no means an easy one in any of the regions. Twenty-five projects advanced to the finals, where the public picked one national winner in online voting, the Moje dílna café project from Zlín.
